Robin Whitsell, Founder and President of Whitsell Innovations (WI), Inc., a full-service medical and scientific writing company headquartered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was an invited speaker at Duke University. She presented “Scope of Career Opportunities of Medical Communications” and visited with graduate students, PhD candidates, and post-doctoral scholars in life sciences following her presentation
“Duke postdocs and graduate students got more than their money’s worth when Robin Whitsell spoke at a recent info session,” says Molly Starback Director, Office of Postdoctoral Services at Duke University. “Ms. Whitsell gave a lively and informative overview of careers in medical communications, her background as an industry scientist, and her path to starting her own medical writing company. As a successful entrepreneur and scientist, Ms. Whitsell provides an excellent role model for postdocs and graduate students looking beyond the academic job market.”
Ms. Whitsell addressed medical writing for pharmaceutical, biotech and device companies including the documentation required for submissions to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) during the pre-clinical and clinical development process. In addition, Ms. Whitsell discussed how industry clients use medical writers to share clinical data in manuscripts, training materials, and presentations.
[quotes class=”none”]“We consider it a corporate mission to educate these students and postdoctoral scholars about the impact and opportunities of the healthcare industry,” says Ms. Whitsell. “Many careers in the pharmaceutical and medical device world don’t have an easily identifiable, entry-level pathway. We are excited that we can direct such talented individuals towards potential jobs where they can contribute.” [/quotes]
